Deb is serving a Spanish-speaking mission in Independence, Missouri from June 27, 2007 to December 19, 2008.
Dictionary
A.P. Assistant to the President. Two Elders who work out of the mission main office and are primarily charged with helping the Mission President. Among some Elders, this is considered a very high status position.
Comp: Companion. Missionaries are assigned a companion missionary that they are supposed to stay with 24/7.
Elder: Official title of a male missionary.
FHE: Family Home Evening. Evening dedicated to spending time with family, learning a lesson or playing games. Usually Monday evening.
Golden: Adjective describing a very receptive investigator.
Hermana: Sister, in Spanish. Official title for a female missionary.
Investigator: Person who is receiving the missionary lessons and possibly considering baptism.
Killed: Missionary slang for sending a companion home at the end of their term of service.
P-Day: Preparation Day. Actually a 1/2 day, when missionaries have a break from proselyting work to do their laundry, go shopping, write letters, etc.
Priesthood: The authority to act in the name of God; also the organization of men who hold this authority.
R.M.: Returned missionary. Someone who has already completed their term of service and returned home.
Sister: Official title of a female missionary. Hermana is Spanish for Sister.
Transfer: Missionaries are assigned a geographical proselyting location. Typically, they will stay in that location between one and six months, but no one knows how long they'll be in a location. Once a month, transfers are made. New assignments are typically only announced a day or two in advance.
Trunky: Missionary slang for a missionary who is so eager to go home, they stop working and just "sit on their trunk."
VC: Visitor's Center in Independence, Missouri, a church historical site.
YSA: Young Single Adult program of activities and classes for members of the church between the ages of 18 and 31.
YM/YW: Young Men's/Young Woman's program of activities and classes for members of the church between the ages of 12 and 18.
